The Wyedean Rally is a club rally in the UK, but its also part of the British Rally Championship. This year is the 40th running, and being as its a championship round, the entry list was pretty spectacular. I'd be fairly confident Chris Harris will write up a post on this later this week, as he was there in his new E30 M3. I would think his post might not be the happiest as (spoiler alert) his M3 broke a steering arm in stage 1.
The other car which was clearly very popular was Steve Perez's Lancia Stratos. However, this only lasted till the third stage, so I didnt get to see it :(. I know it was popular though, as I kept hearing it mentioned by the crowd all throughout the day.
If you've never been to a local rally, get down to one, its great fun, and very confusing. Large periods of time will go by with no cars going past, for reasons which are only obvious to a very small group of people who will be next to the car being recovered. On that note, I have to say, huge credit to the crew of the 215 Vauxhall Astra, which went off the road halfway through stage 8. The driver was standing before the corner, and apologised to me as he was spoiling the pictures, because he was standing there with his warning triangle to stop other people going off. Class Act.

was a great rally, apart from spending 30 minutes waiting for Chris Harris on stage 4 before realizing that he was not coming. Missed the lancia as well, the two cars that I was most looking forward to.
Maybe stage 1 will be a safer bet next year.

I had the same problem, I was looking forward to seeing the Stratos, and the Harris M3, but also missed both. hey ho. I was lucky enough to see the Stratos at Wales Rally GB in November, and my goodness that sounded incredible.
I think you may be correct, although with the MSA decreeing forest rallies must run in seeded order, no split grids, I wonder what that means for the Wyedean and other rallys like the Tempest up in Farnborough.. I think it might well do some damage to the entry lists, especially of the lower seeded entries. Time will tell I guess.

Shame to hear about about lower seeds being threatened. Rallies like these rely on many entries to run and I just hope that the huge turnouts continue to happen. Maybe TV coverage and increased advertising will be able to lure back lower seeds. Who knows?
You were lucky to see the Stratos! I couldnt find it in the pits but I did manage to see Harris' M3, although just missed Harris himself by 5 minutes, although the atmosphere seemed a bit tense and frosty with people auggesting he should stick to tarmac. That might have lex tohis swift departure. I think they were dissappinted to go out so soon after a long treck up from Rally Prep in cornwall. Maybe next year he can finish the rally!
